Though it's not totally important to most of us to be aware,
employment is commonly what many of us has been relying to in order to survive every
day. And as far as I can remember, it's been quite some time, well, actually
it's about 3 years that I spent my life being employed.
Spent more than two years as a call center agent in two different
companies and about a year working as a virtual assistant (customer service
representative) in the online world. Though being employed was never a part of
my childhood plans, I ventured into it thus making those days tough for me, as
I was doing things I don't really love doing. But I can't deny the fact that
those jobs helped me build who I am right now. And though, what I had is quite
a short working experience compared to others', it was a struggle for me. Well,
even when I was just staying at home earning money-yeah, the job was fulfilling
at first and its far better compared to working in the corporate world, I still
felt something wrong about my life as I wanted to have full control over my
time and do things I really should be doing. Like pursuing my passion which is
"art". And despite leaving home for work is no longer needed, no need
to experience bad days due to any weather condition, and no need to experience
heavy traffic anymore, I still felt I'm not on track.
So I dared to ask myself a
lot of questions as what is lacking. After taking different actions like soul
searching to get an answer and after reading different self help and success
books, I realized the burden I've been carrying is because I was not really
taking the path I've always wanted. And the only way for me to take the right
path -the path to entrepreneurship- is to have total control over my time which
will lead to quitting my job. It feels as though I am in the middle of a war at
that instant as I was carefully weighing things to make the right decision. Quit job and have free time and in return, lost
monthly income. Just thinking of that really brought chills to my bones. But I
built a strong commitment in the process of analysis and it grew stronger than
my fears of losing money. After all, not taking the path I've always wanted out
of fear is one thing I can't allow to happen.
So then it took me eight
months to finally decide and quit my online job as customer service. But I did
not lose my income. By late 2012, I started an online business with the job I
used to have and became an entrepreneur since then -thanks to my mentor's help Jomar Hilario as well as to my young mentors Jan Hilado and Hanz Florentino. With oDesk agency platform,
I can now provide oDesk contractors (customer service contractors) to clients
when needed. Although, the business is just small, I believe it will grow in
the years to come. Well, every successful business was once small, right?
And finally, "I am
living my entrepreneur dream" I said to myself. Well, I know it's late to
have it shared just now, but it's better late than never as they say it.

Other than that, one of my plans this
year is to build multiple income streams

P.S.1
I learned that if you really want to start a business, the best way to start is
to be resourceful. Use what you already have- your skills or core gift for example.
That's what I learned from my mentors. (For oDesk contractors, take care of
your clients for it will be a good opportunity to start a personal business in
the future.)
